Dejphon Chansiri comments on player wages issues and season ticket refunds at Sheffield Wednesday

One of the main issues was the situation regarding player wages at the club, with several reports stating that they haven’t been paid in full, and there was also questions about the process of refunding fans for their season tickets.

Chansiri explained that the players have now been paid in full, and admitted that the current global situation has made things very tough – not just for the Sheffield Wednesday.

When asked about the player wages, Chansiri told the media, he said, “We chose to refund money, even though we’re in a difficult situation… We thought it would be a few months, and the new system has made everything very slow.

“It has to be done manually, but I can guarantee that they will get their money - but I always keep my word.

“Our regulations say no refunds, but I made the decision to refund - even in a difficult situation.

“We need to move a lot of data, and it takes a long time. We didn’t think 50%/60% of fans would want a refund, so it’s taking longer, but I’m asking for patience. I guarantee they will get their money.”

He said it will be done ‘as soon as possible’.

Meanwhile, when asked about the situation regarding season-ticket refunds, he guaranteed that fans would get their money – even if it was a slow process.

He said, "In the COVID situation we don’t have any revenue, and at the beginning we thought it’d be just a few months - now it’s nearly a year.

Business all over the world has collapsed, and we got hit also because of the cashflow. We don’t keep cash on hand too much.

“The players have now all been paid… I can’t guarantee the future in this situation, because we don’t have revenue.

“In a normal situation we wouldn’t have any issues. In six years it’s never happened. But whoever needs to get money, they’ll get at the end anyway. But we’re not getting any help, not from the EFL or government.”
