Sheffield Wednesday’s youngsters have six weeks to get themselves back in shape and ready for a return to action after they were given guidance from the Premier League regarding their restart.

Like the Championship, the Premier League is due to get back underway on September 12th as the 2020/21 season gets officially underway, and it has now been revealed that their U18s and U23s will be back in competitive fixtures around the same time.

The Owls’ youth setup has had some impressive success stories over the past couple of years, and with the likes of Alex Hunt, Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide having already stepped up from youth ranks over the past few months, and there will be plenty waiting in the wings to follow in their footsteps in the campaign ahead.

Speaking to the club’s official YouTube channel, Academy Manager, Steve Haslam, explained, “We’ve been given guidance from the Premier League that U18s and U23s will start around September 12th, which obviously falls in line with the first team, so you know we’ve got a six-week preseason period to get the boys back, fit and ready to hit the games programme.

“It’s great to be back, there’s a lot of smiles on the staff and players due to the fact that they’re back at work.”

The U23s last outing saw them beat Sheffield United 2-1 back in March, while the U18s were also victorious in their last game - a 4-0 thumping of Burnley also in March.
