Lee has been with the Owls for the best part of a decade since joining from Oldham Athletic as a free agent back in 2012, and has been an excellent servant for club over the years, playing more than 200 times for SWFC.

The midfield man showed his commitment to the club in June when he – alongside Atdhe Nuhiu and Paul Jones – signed short-term extensions in order to see out the remainder of the 2019/20 season despite being out of contract, a decision that drew plenty of praise from manager, Garry Monk.

Speaking about Lee and Nuhiu last month, Monk said, “I’ll be having discussions with Kieran and Atdhe, they’ve been fantastic in their attitude. They both extended their contracts which is great, they’re the two that did it and they’ve been fantastic with me.”

He also went on to add, “Extending their contracts showed how much they were committed to the club and we all know what their history is with the club and everything they’ve brought to it.”

The Star understands that, regarding Lee’s future, the club and player are keen to extend their relationship if the terms are right, but it remains to be seen at this point in time whether an agreement will be reached that would mean the defeat to Middlesbrough wasn’t his Owls swansong.

Lee, like the other Wednesday players, are currently enjoying some time off after what has been the longest Championship season ever, and are only due back in mid-August as Monk looks to finalise his squad for what is set to be a tough season ahead.

Monk will require players up for a fight after the clubs’ battle with the English Football League resulted in a 12-point deduction, and one thing that no Wednesdayite would ever question is Lee’s commitment to the cause.
