Carvalhal, who famously took the Owls to Wembley in his first season at Hillsborough and reached the players in his second, has been on the lookout for a new gig since leaving Al Wahda in the UAE earlier this year, and it looked at one point like he might be headed back to England.

The Portuguese manager saw his name mentioned with both Hull City and West Bromwich Albion after they parted ways with Shota Arveladze and Steve Bruce respectively, however it will be Spain rather than England where he will be plying his trade next.

According to reports in the media today, Carvalhal wass on the brink of being appointed as the new manager of Celta Vigo in the Spanish LaLiga, with the club seemingly set to get him on board with a two-year contract in Galicia – now his move has been announced.

Carvalhal has been at Swansea City, Rio Ave and Braga – as well as Wahda – since his departure from Hillsborough in late 2017, and he’ll be looking to help his new side climb up the table from the 16th place spot, just above the relegation zone, that they currently occupy.

Eduardo ‘Chacho’ Coudet, the current Celta Vigo manager, has been under pressure recently after a string of bad results, and it was confirmed shortly before the unveiling of Carvalhal that his time at the club had come to an end.
