The Magpies are flying high in the Premier League and boast a squad bang in form - unbeaten in 13 and with one of the best defensive records in the country.
We asked colleague Jordan Cronin, who covers Newcastle United for our sister title Newcastle World, for a heads-up on how Eddie Howe’s side could go about it.
Over to Jordan: “No disrespect to Wednesday but Eddie Howe is expected to ring the changes for the trip to Hillsborough given the game falls three days before the Carabao Cup last eight clash at home to Leicester.
“Ultimately, the Leicester game takes precedence as its the first time since 2006 Newcastle play a quarter-final at St James’ Park in front of supporters. That said, Howe has made it clear he wants to take every competition seriously and whatever starting XI he names will be expected to beat Wednesday.”
. Changes are expected..
..but whatever side Newcastle United put out at Hillsborough on Saturday, it's going to be a strong one. It remains to be seen just how many changes Eddie Howe may make, but here's the team Jordan has plumped for. Photo: Stu Forster
. GK - Martin Dubravka
Freshly returned from a loan at Manchester United, Slovakian international Dubravka has been one of the stand-out goalkeepers in the top tier at times but has found himself out-of-favour since the signing of Nick Pope. Photo: Alex Burstow
. RB - Javi Manquillo
A former Atletico Madrid and Liverpool full-back, Manquillo has over 100 appearances under his belt for Newcastle but is another to have fallen down the pecking order since the addition of new players - not least Kieran Trippier. Has made only two appearances across all competitions this season but could be in line for a third. Photo: Mike Hewitt

4. CB - Jamaal Lascelles
A long-time skipper at St James Park with 220 Newcastle appearances to date, Lascelles has made just six appearances this season, two of them coming in the Carabao Cup. Should be given the chance to stretch his legs at Hillsborough, the Owls will hope they can catch him cold. Photo: Ian MacNicol
