Tom Davies sends emotional message to Sheffield United supporters as he opens up on future decision

Tom Davies has sent an emotional message to Sheffield United supporters after the decision was taken to call time on his Blades career this summer

Tom Davies described playing for Sheffield United as a “genuine honour” after the confirmation earlier this week that his injury-plagued spell at Bramall Lane will come to an end when his contract expires this summer. The former England U21 international joined United in 2023 following his departure from boyhood Everton.

But he has not been able to show Unitedites what he is capable of on a consistent basis, despite so many promising signs which turned out to be false dawns. To date he has made just 11 starts for the Blades, and 25 further appearances from the bench.

Both Davies and United left no stone unturned in a bid to get to the bottom of his fitness issues but a decision was taken for him to seek a new challenge in the summer, with the midfielder insistent he stil has something to offer a new club despite his recent struggles.

In a message posted on his social media account, Davies wrote: “I want to let the fans know that, following open and respectful conversations, Sheffield United and I have mutually agreed to part ways at the end of this season.

“It has been a genuine honour to represent this club, this city, and our supporters. Over the past three years, I've appreciated the backing I’ve had from the fans and the friendships I've built with teammates, which I will carry with me long beyond my time here.

“Looking ahead, I feel like I'm in a really good place. I am fully fit, healthy, and ready to take on a new challenge. I'll be using the off-season to put in the work with my personal team to ensure I'm in the best possible shape for whatever comes next.

“I'm hungry and motivated for the next challenge. I know there's a lot more to come from me, and I'm looking forward to giving my all in the next chapter. Thank you again to everyone connected to Sheffield United for your support throughout my time at the club - it's meant a lot to me and my family.”

Teammates past and present at Bramall Lane flooded the comments section of Davies’ post with supportive comments. Winger Andre Brooks wrote: “All the best my mate, gonna miss you,” while Tyrese Campbell described Davies as “one of a kind ... will miss you my brother.”

Sydie Peck, Michael Cooper and former loan star Harry Souttar, still fighting to reclaim fitness after a bad Achilles injury sustained during his time at Bramall Lane, were also amongst those to show their love for the popular midfielder as he prepares to begin a new chapter.
