Swansea City boss explains what his team are expecting from Sheffield United

Sheffield United take on Swansea this afternoon in South Wales

Swansea City boss Vitor Matos doesn’t believe he’ll be getting any bis surprises when he sends his team out to face Sheffield United this afternoon.

The Swans are coming off the back of a fine win over Stoke City last weekend, while for United it was a 0-0 draw with Birmingham City in their league opener at Bramall Lane.

There’s a buzz around Swansea this season after some impressive work in the transfer market but Matos is clear about what he is up against when the Blades roll into South Wales.

“It's about being competitive and that's what we want,” he said. “We now have Sheffield (United), which is a really good team. Chris is a really experienced manager and knows the league really well.

“Every time, these teams are really competitive and they have a clear plan of what to do on the pitch. We count it as a difficult game knowing that we will handle it with aggressiveness, verticality and quick attacks.

“I think that's something we need to be aware of and we need to find a way to impose our game and that's what we will try.”

It’s a first match of the season at the Swansea.com Stadium and it’s their form there that made people sit up and take notice last season.

A big atmosphere is expected and that should be seen as a warning to United.

”We want to make our stadium a proper place for us and for that we need the fans,£ he added. “We need that connection with the fans and with the squad. It's up to us as a team to give the energy and give the first step by showing energy, by showing intensity, by showing hard work, by showing our football.

“I think the fans give it back and that connection is really important for us and was really important last season and I think of course will be really important this season as well.”

He added: “Yes, we want to be a team that no one feels comfortable to play against, especially at our stadium of course.”
