Berge was considered a possible doubt for Thursday’s trip to Blackpool after appearing to be in some discomfort following a poor tackle, with many Blades fans speculating that the Norwegian may be rested for the trip to the seaside – especially with fellow midfielder Tommy Doyle announcing his return to full fitness with a goal against City off the bench.

But, hinting that Berge will be loathe to give up his place in Paul Heckingbottom’s starting XI, McCall said: “Everyone wants to be involved, if you've got hungry players it's a good recipe for success.

“Obviously Egs [John Egan] with his red card misses out but I think it'll be a similar squad again. Sander got a little knock, but he's fine. Other than that, we're all ready again.”

Chris Basham is expected to return in defence in the absence of Egan, who will serve a one-match ban for picking up two bookings against Coventry. He came off the bench after Egan saw red, with Anel Ahmedhodžić shifting to the centre of United’s back three.

“When we sit down and go through the sides, you can put three or four up on the board and go: ‘We're not any weaker there or there’,” McCall added.

“And that's a great position. Early in the season, when we had all those injuries, we were struggling to get an XI out there, or certainly the bench that was going to make us stronger.

“Now, if we make three subs from the bench it doesn't make us any weaker and I think that's where most clubs would like to be. Hopefully, we can stay injury-clear between now and the end of the season and get a couple more bodies back. And have a real go for it.”

United travel to Blackpool second in the standings and eight points clear of Blackburn Rovers in third, but three behind leaders Burnley in the race for the Premier League.
