Sheffield United's Championship rivals 'agree' £7.2m transfer as Burnley 'want' free agent
All the very latest Championship transfer rumours with just one month to go until the start of the 2026/27 season.
Sheffield United are now exactly one month away from getting their 2026/27 Championship campaign underway against Birmingham City at Bramall Lane.
The Blades will step up their pre-season preparations on Friday when they face Spanish side Levante UD, and they will be keen to maintain their unbeaten record this summer after recently beating FC Halifax Town 3-1 and drawing 0-0 with Chesterfield respectively.
However, progress in the transfer market has not been as fast as United supporters would have hoped for. Including Jaïro Riedewald’s return to the club, the Blades have drafted in just two new signings so far this summer, with Romelle Donovan becoming their latest addition last week after arriving on loan from Brentford.
Manager Chris Wilder is determined to add more fresh blood to his squad ahead of the season starting next month, meaning the clock is ticking. United’s 23 Championship counterparts find themselves in an identical position, of course.
With that in mind, here are some of the latest transfer rumours concerning United’s second tier rivals...
Wrexham ‘agree’ Moreno deal
Wrexham have ‘agreed a deal’ with Fiorentina to sign centre-back Matías Moreno, according to a report by Sky Sports. It is reported the deal will be worth £7.2million and that the Argentine defender is now ‘discussing personal terms’ with the Red Dragons.
Wrexham, who are yet to make their first signing of the summer, are keen to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the start of this season. Given the size of the reported transfer fee, Moreno would represent a statement signing.
The 22-year-old, who joined Fiorentina in August 2024, spent last season on loan at Levante, making 29 appearances. He helped the Spanish outfit finish 16th in La Liga last term.
Should Moreno finalise a switch to the Racecourse Ground, Fiorentina have reportedly inserted a 50 per cent sell-on clause into the deal.
Clarets ‘want’ Cirkin
According to journalist Alan Nixon, Burnley are ‘interested’ in signing former Sunderland left-back Dennis Cirkin. The 24-year-old is currently available as a free agent after being released by the Black Cats earlier this summer.

Despite playing a starring role in helping the Black Cats clinch promotion to the Premier League in 2024/25, he barely featured last season, making just eight top-flight appearances.
After appointing Nicky Hayen as their new head coach last Friday, Burnley are expected to step up their efforts in the transfer market ahead of the new campaign getting underway in a month’s time.
Cirkin, who is also attracting interest from German club FC Schalke, is experienced in the Championship, having made 75 appearances at this level. The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster has also been linked with Middlesbrough and Norwich City this summer.
