Rabbi Matondo's biggest strengths outlined as Sheffield United consider transfer swoop
Sheffield United are weighing up a move for former Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo.
Rabbi Matondo’s pace, trickery and dribbling ability have been identified as his key strengths amid Sheffield United’s interest in his signature.
The Star reported on Monday that the Blades, who drew 0-0 with Chesterfield in their second pre-season friendly of the summer on Saturday, are considering offering the SK Brann winger a route back into English football.
Matondo joined Brann from Scottish club Rangers in March for an undisclosed fee. However, he has made just three appearances for the three-time Norwegian champions.
United are keen to strengthen their left-sided options this summer, and the 25-year-old Wales international is primarily a left-winger. He has previous Championship experience with Stoke City, having spent time on loan at the bet365 Stadium during the 2020/21 campaign.
Since spending time in Staffordshire, Matondo has had a loan spells with Cercle Brugge KSV and Hannover 96 alongside permanent stints at Rangers and Brann. He moved to Hannover in January 2025, joining the German club on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
He made ten appearances during his time at the Heinz-von-Heiden-Arena, scoring one goal. Although he was not prolific in front of goal during his time in Germany, Matondo’s pace and willingness to drive forward earned praise following his move to Hannover.
Former Hannover sporting director Marcus Mann, as quoted by Rangers Review, said: "Rabbi has received an excellent football education, took his first steps in professional football at a very young age and has steadily developed himself and his game over the course of his career.
"He brings skills that will give our squad more variability and depth. His speed and acceleration are certainly exceptional. He also stands out for his dribbling, he has a good drive towards goal and can also be dangerous from a distance.
"He is a totally positive guy who will also fit in well and quickly on a personal level. In our discussions together, he was very interested and open to our club, our goals and our idea of playing football. We are happy that he has chosen 96 and are convinced that he can give our offensive game additional impetus."
