Hamza Choudhury’s controversial red card means he is suspended for the trip to Ashton Gate, while Matt Doherty has been ruled out after requiring an injection in his knee.
Femi Seriki is closing in on a return but was not expected to feature and Jamie Shackleton, another potential option, is also out after suffering another setback, leaving Wilder with a right-back headache.
There could be further changes, too, as United round off a three-game week and after the effort of playing with 10 men for so long against Portsmouth.
So who makes our predicted Sheffield United starting XI for the trip to Bristol City? Take a look through the gallery to see our selection - have we got it just about right or would you do anything differently?

5. Romelle Donovan
A right wing-back in my system, with responsibility to get forward but also defensive work to do too. To be fair he doesn't seem to shirk that side of his game, even if his strengths lie in running at opponents. Good chance to rest Chong too for the third game in a week | Getty Images

6. Sydie Peck
Ordinarily you'd consider resting a player who's played two full games in a short space of time but Peck has such energy that he'll back himself to go again. Made a slight error for Pompey's opener on Wednesday but should have had an assist too had Cannon or Bamford finished | Getty Images

7. Kalvin Phillips
Missed out against Lincoln and only played 45 at Pompey so you'd imagine he'll be okay to start. You could see after he came on at half-time how he moves with the ball and his corner for Cannon's goal was spot on, too. A top player at this level | Wolves via Getty Images

8. Oliver Arblaster
A chance for the United No.4 to play a bit more advanced again in this shape and help support the strikers, whilst also offering United some protection in the middle out of possession. Came on as a sub in midweek so should be relatively fresh | Getty Images
