'Everyone will' - Sydie Peck gives verdict on importance of Chris Wilder selection dilemma
Sydie Peck made his mark in Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Sydie Peck believes every member of Sheffield United’s midfield pool will play their part this season after scoring his first Championship goal of the campaign in Tuesday night’s 2–1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
After Tom Cannon had equalised for the Blades, cancelling out Kristi Montgomery’s excellent opener, Peck, who had provided the assist for Cannon’s equaliser, fired Chris Wilder’s side in front on the stroke of half-time with a fantastic goal of his own.
Controlling a pass from Joe Rothwell, Peck flicked the ball over the head of Blackburn centre-back Tom Atcheson before firing a left-footed effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.
United had been second best for much of the first half, but their only two shots in the opening 45 minutes were enough to ensure they went into the interval in front. Peck’s strike was his final contribution in a busy first half for the former Arsenal youngster, who was guilty of losing possession in the build-up to Blackburn breaking the deadlock.
Peck was joined in midfield by Rothwell at Ewood Park after being partnered by Jaïro Riedewald in the engine room against Norwich City at the weekend. It was the first time Peck and Rothwell had started a Championship game together since the 2–2 draw with Cardiff City last month.
Following Kalvin Phillips’ return on loan from Manchester City last month, boss Wilder has up to seven players capable of playing in the centre of midfield. Although that creates a selection dilemma for the Blades boss, Peck believes the competition allows each member of United’s midfield pool to push each other.
“It's a good midfield group,” Peck told BBC Radio Sheffield. “We push each other in training, we help each other out, and everyone will contribute.”

Peck, who has started every Championship fixture so far this season, is likely to continue that trend when Wolverhampton Wanderers visit Bramall Lane on Sunday, having played an important role in the win at Blackburn. The visit of the Black Country outfit is a contest that Peck is looking forward to.
He added: “It'll be a tough game, I'm sure. It's one I'm looking forward to, and the boys are looking forward to it as well. We'll go back and recover after tonight.
“We’ll get back on the training field and prepare for the game on Sunday.”
