Sheffield United attacker taking full advantage of loan spell as hot streak continues
Sheffield United attacker Louie Marsh is making the most of his loan spell at Chesterfield.
Sheffield United youngster Louie Marsh continued his encouraging start to his loan spell at Chesterfield with another goal in their 1-1 draw with Port Vale in their Jersey Mike’s Trophy clash at the SMH Group Stadium on Tuesday night.
Marsh, who joined the Spireites on loan for the duration of the 2026/27 campaign last month, netted a second-half equaliser for Paul Cook’s team after Vale had taken the lead in the first half through former Norwich City winger Onel Hernández.
Introduced from the bench with 65 minutes on the clock to replace Joel Randall, Marsh put Chesterfield back on level terms just four minutes later, stroking home a composed finish.
After Chelsea loanee Kiano Dyer received Liam Mandaville’s ball on the half-turn in a central area, he played a pass into Marsh’s feet on the edge of the penalty area. After taking a touch to advance into the box and open his body up, the Blades loanee, who spent time on loan at Scottish side Falkirk last season, found the bottom corner to score his second goal in as many Jersey Mike’s Trophy outings.
The 22-year-old’s smart finish was enough to take the contest to a penalty shootout, and he stepped up from 12 yards to convert Chesterfield’s second penalty, helping them seal a 5-4 win on penalties and earn an additional point in their quest to advance to the first knockout round of the competition.
Chesterfield are currently top of Group D after earning five points from their first two matches. They beat Manchester City’s Under-21s 5-3 in a thriller at the SMH Group Stadium last week, with Marsh playing a key role in that triumph by scoring and registering an assist.
Since swapping Bramall Lane for north Derbyshire last month, Marsh has made a strong start to life in Chesterfield colours, scoring four goals and registering one assist in just six appearances. As a result of his strong run of form, the United academy graduate has established himself as a key member of Cook’s plans, starting each of the Spireites’ last three League Two matches.
Marsh will be hoping to add to his tally when Chesterfield travel to the EV Charger Points Stadium to face Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon.
