Jordan Ayew addresses his Sheffield United future as he shows selfless side amid goal hunt
Jordan Ayew joined Sheffield United as a free agent in September.
Sheffield United striker Jordan Ayew has said he is not currently thinking about the prospect of extending his contract at Bramall Lane beyond the end of the season.
Having been left short of attacking options following the end of the summer transfer window, United swooped for the former Crystal Palace and Leicester City forward on a free transfer last month.
Ayew had been without a club since leaving Leicester at the end of last season. He scored six goals in 45 appearances for the Foxes as they were relegated from the Championship.
United signed the Ghanaian international on a deal running until the end of the season. He has needed time to get up to speed and build up his fitness following the lack of a proper pre-season. He has made five appearances for the Blades so far, earning his first start earlier this month when they beat Bristol City 1-0 at Ashton Gate.
“Listen, in football, I've learned that things go really, really quickly,” Ayew told BBC Radio Sheffield, addressing the prospect of extending his stay at Bramall Lane. “I've learned to be really humble and to take things step by step.
“So, like I said, my first target was to get myself ready in terms of fitness and adapting to the club and to the environment. I think that step is kind of done.
“So now the next step is to help the team get results, and that's what I'm focused on. The future will handle itself. I'm not really thinking about January, February or March.
“I'm thinking about right now. I'm thinking about tomorrow (vs Wrexham), and that's it. I'm thinking about the session today and tomorrow. So, day by day, step by step, I'm not in a rush, and everything is in God's hands.”

As a striker, it is natural for Ayew to be eager to score his first goal in United colours. However, he has stressed that it does not matter who gets on the scoresheet, as long as the team picks up positive results.
He added: “I’m a big believer in the team, and the most important [thing] for me is that we get the three points. Whoever scores, my time will come because I have the right mentality.
“I'm doing the right things, so, at some point, my time will come. But the most important thing for me is to get the three points tomorrow and for everyone to be happy, because I think we deserve to go on a good run.”
