Former Sheffield United transfer target makes Blades admission ahead of Wrexham clash
Sheffield United and Wrexham will go head-to-head at Bramall Lane on Friday evening.
Wrexham defender Joe Worrall is anticipating a stern test ahead of Friday night’s Championship clash with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Both sides will head into the contest looking to return to winning ways following disappointing results last weekend. The Blades were forced to settle for a point after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by ten-man Derby County, while Wrexham suffered a 2-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers.
Both teams have made indifferent starts to their respective campaigns, meaning they currently sit between the play-off places and the relegation zone. United, who are currently 12th, have 16 points to their name, while Wrexham sit 17th with 14 points from their first 12 matches of the season.
In a parallel universe, Worrall could have been preparing for Friday night’s Bramall Lane showdown as a United player, after the Blades expressed a strong interest in adding him to Chris Wilder’s ranks during the summer transfer window.
It is understood that Worrall, who was previously at Burnley, was keen to join the Blades, but they were unable to match Wrexham’s offer, meaning he instead moved to the Racecourse Ground for a fee in the region of £2million. The experienced defender has made four appearances for the Welsh outfit so far this season, scoring once.
Ahead of the clash with the Blades, Worrall has been given an insight into what to expect by Wrexham teammate and former United midfielder Callum O’Hare, who left Bramall Lane last month. Furthermore, the centre-back is only too aware of the threats United have within their ranks.
“They've got some good players,” Worrall told Wrexham’s club website. “They've got a lot of experience. You look at [Patrick] Bamford leading the line. Obviously, [Michael] Cooper, the goalkeeper, has been there a few years. He's played at this level for a while as well.

“They've got a good squad, and speaking with Callum O'Hare, he speaks very well about Sheffield United as a club and their dressing room.
“It's going to be bouncing at Bramall Lane. It's a great stadium to play at. We’re looking forward to it. For me, personally, you look at Sheffield United, Bramall Lane, these clubs that I've enjoyed playing against over the years, and it's one that our dressing room is looking forward to.
“We’re not looking past Sheffield United. We've got to make sure that the lads are on it and they're fully focused on getting the result on Friday.”
