Sheffield United fans handed fresh Adidas hint with iconic detail set to return as Blades issue cash balance reminder

The Blades’ new Adidas partnership could bring back a classic design feature rarely seen outside elite clubs. Self-confessed kit geek Danny Hall reports

The hardy bunch of kit aficionados amongst Sheffield United’s fanbase could receive some more welcome news following this month’s confirmation that the Blades will resurrect their partnership with Adidas from next season. As we revealed recently, a deal had been put in place for the German giants to team up with the Blades again.

Once the Is were dotted and the Ts crossed, United officially confirmed the news after bringing to an end their four-season partnership with Italian company Errea. Adidas previously made United’s kits for an eight-year period, with news of a return of the three stripes generally positively received.

One downside in some eyes is a potential return to generic templated kits, with Errea at least allowing United some control over how their kits looked. The partnership was a success on that front, even if there were frequent complaints about sizing and general quality - including badges falling off players’ shirts mid-game.

It has not yet been disclosed which tier of clubs United will fall into on the Adidas roster, with the elite sides given bespoke designs. Although The Star has been told that a high-placed official at the company supports United, which may do their cause no harm.

But either way, Unitedites could at least get their hands on a Blades kit featuring the Adidas trefoil for the first time next season.

According to kit-dedicated website Footy Headlines, Adidas plan to use the iconic logo on all their away shirts next season, mirroring their approach at this summer’s World Cup. Previously that was also reserved for elite clubs such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Unitedites may get a glimpse of where their club stands in the Adidas structure based on when their new kits are announced. FH have previously suggested that the company plan to pause any releases during this summer’s World Cup, so as to focus all their marketing attentions on the tournament.

Whether that applies only to their elite teams or all the ones on their roster remains to be seen, however. The process of refurbishing the United club shop under the Adidas branding has already begun, with the doors closing after Saturday’s final home game of the season against Preston North End.

The superstore is set to open again in early July - “in time,” a club statement read, “for the arrival of the club's new 2026/27 retail ranges, including official kits and training wear.”

Unitedites are also reminded that their Club Cash balances will expire on Sunday, May 10. The scheme gave fans a percentage of their spend on tickets and merchandise back in an online wallet, but it will be lost if not used online by that date.

From next season, season ticket holders will instead receive a 10 per cent discount on merchandise bought via official United channels. A club spokesperson said: “The club would like to thank supporters who have engaged with the scheme over the years.

“Work is already underway on a new rewards programme that will replace ClubCash, with further details to be communicated to supporters in due course.”
