From the moment Sheffield United released Chris Wilder’s team selection an hour before kick off, most thought that a Manchester United win was inevitable.

They hadn’t banked on this being the night that everything would finally work out for the Blades.

Incredibly, Kean Bryan headed Wilder’s men into a lead they held until the break.

The expected up in tempo from the home side arrived in the second half and when Harry Maguire’s header flew in, the dream appeared as though it might evaporate into the Manchester skies.

Then, Oliver Burke came off the bench and came up trumps, firing in what would be the winner with the aid of a deflection and suddenly a season that had given so little, was gifting United fans.

There are now eight points on the board. They can’t… can they?

Fans are daring to dream.

@gill_carly posted on twitter: “Keep the top teams quiet for the first 20-30mins, stop them playing their game and you’re always in with a chance. That was a team performance an a half and fully deserved! Well done Blades. CW that was for you!”

@WillyRoberts said: “So pleased for Jags. Probably my all time favourite #sufc player and whatever happens between now and the end of the season for him and Sheffield United he’ll have that feather in his cap. Outstanding performance.”

@JamesHenery123 added: “Fleck back to his best, Norwood and Lunny never stopped, Ramsdale came for everything, Jagielka and Bash faultless, that’s what we know these players are capable of and why we’ve been so harsh on them because they’ve not showed us what we know they can. To a man”

@SP00NS said: “Us #Twitterblades haven’t had much to celebrate this season. But that was brilliant. Yes, we parked the bus. But can you blame us? Defence was magnificent. And we scored TWO in a PL game. We haven’t won at OT in my lifetime. Now we have. THAT was a #sufc performance”

And @DemBladesDavid offered this epic summary: “Bottom of the league, wartime injury list, with a 38-year-old maestro at the back, playing a team flying at the top with international superstars. The greatest win of the Chris Wilder era. A group of immortals. We're staying up.”
