The Blades secured what many observers are calling a shock victory thanks to goals from Kean Bryan and Oli Burke, either side of Harry Maguire's equaliser against his old club.

Bryan's headed in off the post after David De Gea came for a corner but couldn't deal with it, while the Red Devils had a goal chalked off after Maguire was adjudged to have fouled Aaron Ramsdale from a set-piece.

And Solskjær thought that United's goal shouldn't have stood, and that the foul on Ramsdale should not have been given.

"We had all the possession and when you concede two bad goals, it'll always be difficult," he said.

"That little bit extra was missing, they defended well and fair play to them, take nothing away from their performance. But we didn't have the solutions today.

"Their first goal was a foul, Billy Sharp runs into him. So it's a foul.

"At the other end, no foul. So that's two mistakes by the referee and that's the inconsistencies. The second goal we concede is so poor, we lost the ball so easy and get back into position but then stop getting out to the ball. Maybe it was down to the season it is.

"We're disappointed but we've seen so many results this season out of character. Today's a surprise but we've been very consistent and it just hit us today. We've got to dust off the sad feeling and go again."
