Former Sheffield United man tells summer target to shun Blades
Sheffield United are one of a number of players understood to be interested in bringing in Lewis Dobbin from Aston Villa
A former Sheffield United player has admitted he is hoping a Blades summer target will be going nowhere.
The Star reported at the weekend that United are interested in Lewis Dobbin, who has been on loan at Preston this season and drawn attention from a number of potential suitors.
United fans got to see what the Aston Villa man is capable of at close quarters last week as he shone for PNE in their victory over the Blades at Bramall Lane.
It’s been something of a breakthrough year for the former England youth international, who has had a number of loan spells in his young career.
His first was at Derby County, while still at Everton for whom he came through the academy system.
After a big money move to Villa Park, Dobbin has since had temporary spells at West Brom and Norwich before really coming into his own at Preston this season with 10 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for former Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom’s side.
Now, another ex-Blade David Unsworth is hoping that rather than move again, Dobbin will end up back at Deepdale next season.
"I think he has found a home,” Unsworth told BBC Radio Lancashire. “He has had certain loan moves, he's had a big move from Everton and never quite hit it off anywhere. I think he has found a home and I hope he can stay.
“I hope they can do some sort of deal. We know him, he is playing with confidence out there. He took his goal really well. When you find a home, you've got to stay, haven't you? You cannot always keep searching for the next club and the next club. Find a home, be a star, get them promoted... I hope Lewis Dobbin can be a Preston player next year."
