With it's mix of quirky independent shops, iconic bars and top-notch restaurants, Devonshire Street remains one of Sheffield's most popular shopping routes.

As our video above shows, it's long been a great place to meet friends for a drink or a bite to eat, or to hunt down a special something in one of its stores, either as a gift or a treat.

The pictures collected above will take you back in time to the noughties, 1990s, and to the beginning of the 80s to show just some of the much-missed shops and hangout spots that have been lost over the years.

Not all has disappeared though. The nostalgic images also show some of the venues still going strong many years later often after numerous changes over the decades.

Pictures include snaps of revellers cutting some shapes on the dance floors at The Hip Joint club night in the late 90s to the construction of the hugely popular Devonshire Green park.

Among the lost businesses shown as well as the characters who ran them are Bistro Casablanca, Mr Kite's celebrated wine bar, and the Mash House restaurant.

These photos are sure to bring back memories for readers.
