A man aged in his 30s has died after an incident on the M1 north of Sheffield last night.

South Yorkshire Police were alerted at 7.16pm yesterday to reports of a road traffic collision on the M1 near Junction 38 ‘involving a car and a pedestrian’.

A force spokesperson said this morning: "The motorway was closed in both directions while emergency services carried out their work.

"A man in his 30s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene."

The road reopened at about 1am this morning.
