M1 reopens north of Sheffield after last night's six-hour police incident

The M1 motorway is now reopen in both directions after being closed for about six hours due to an incident between junctions 37 and 38 north of Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police tweeted that the road had reopened at 1am and thanked drivers for their patience.

Highways England issued a series of tweets last night urging drivers to avoid the area and also told people trapped in queues to remain in their vehicles.
