Saturday will see a cold and frosty start as further showers will feed into coastal districts, increasing the likelihood of sleet and snow to move southwards during the afternoon.

With a maximum temperature of 3°C during the day, it will turn rather cloudy with further outbreaks of showery rain and hill snow in the evening.

The Met Office said the most frequent and heaviest of the showers will be along North sea costs as temperature plummets to 0°C.

Further showers feeding in from the North Sea are forecast on Sunday, these merging to give longer spells of rain and some hill snow, with a maximum temperature of 3°C.
