First Bus South Yorkshire on Sunday (March 28) tweeted: “Due to repeated acts of vandalism, services will divert every evening in a one-way loop via: Park Square roundabout, Duke Street/City Road, Manor Lane, Maltravers Road and Cricket Inn Road back to Park Square roundabout”.

The service runs between Wybourn and Nether Edge via Flat Street bus interchange.

Rob Hughes, operations director at First South Yorkshire later said: “Due to repeated acts of vandalism and anti-social behaviour over nine consecutive days in the Wybourn area of the city, we have taken the decision to divert our service 56 away from the area in the evenings to protect the safety and wellbeing of our drivers and customers.

"We are working closely with the police to try and apprehend the people involved but until the matter is resolved we will be continuing with the diversion that is in place”
