The ‘Dutch’ roundabout at West Bar is set to open in mid November, according to Sheffield City Council.

It comes after contractors Sisk started building a cycle lane in April last year, part of a £25m contract for the Irish firm which includes revamping Fargate.

The new West Bar roundabout will have a circular outer track for bicycles, with vehicles entering and leaving the roundabout required to give way.

The project has also seen Tenter Street and West Bar reduced from four lanes to two to create space a cycle lane separate from traffic.

Council chiefs say they want to ‘improve sustainable links between the city centre and Kelham and Neepsend, supporting the increased numbers of people that live, work and visit the area’.

Bike repair business Fettle has opened in the former Quik Fit garage on Townhead Street, at the junction with Broad Lane and Tenter Street.
