Sheffield traffic: Busy Clyde Road to stay closed for months after new storm damage
A popular Sheffield cut-through which closed due to flooding is not set to reopen for months after more storm damage.
Clyde Road was blocked in October 2024 after the River Sheaf breached a defence wall below The Emporium antiques shop.
The Environment Agency demolished the shop as part of plans to rebuild the wall and had hoped to reopen the road last year.

The road links Broadfield Road with Chesterfield Road in Heeley.
In November, Storm Claudia caused fresh damage underneath an electrical substation on the opposite bank and next to a section of flood wall that had previously been reinforced.

‘Rock armour’ boulders have been placed in both breaches as a temporary repair, photos show.
But the new damage has delayed the reopening of Clyde Road.

An EA spokesperson said: “The further damage caused by Storm Claudia means that our works are going to take longer than planned, however we hope to be able to open Clyde Road this summer, and we thank the local community for their patience.”
