M1 tanker crash Sheffield: Update on lemonade truck crash which caused traffic chaos near Sheffield
This was the scene on the M1 this afternoon, as efforts continued to recover a stricken lemonade tanker truck from the side of the M1 after a crash
Pictures show the recovery vehicles trying to haul the tanker from the side of the M1, as it emerged that the vehicle had been full of soft drink.

Traffic had been halted on the M1 southbound between J35a and J35 in the immediate aftermath of the crash just after 11am this morning, but by 12noon most of the lanes were re-opened, with just a single lane and the southbound slip lane closed.
National Highways say their latest information was that the southbound slip road remained closed, and they do not currently have an exact time for when work will be completed.
Just after12noon, National Highways announced: “A HGV (carrying lemonade) has come to rest off the carriageway at the bottom of the slip with its trailer overturned. The slip will remain closed for recovery and clean up.”
At 1.25pm they said: “Recovery is underway but due to the location the vehicle has landed, this will be a protracted process. There is also a diesel spillage deal with.”
They added: “Delays are now minimal.”
A spokesman told The Star this afternoon: “Recovery operations are underway; however, we expect the recovery to be protracted due to the position of the HGV and trailer and the complexity of safely removing them from the slip road environment.
“A diesel spillage has also been reported on the entry slip. This will require specialist treatment and clean-up works before the slip road can be reopened safely.
“Damage has been reported to the nearside safety barrier on the southbound mainline between the slip roads, with additional damage to the nearside barrier on the entry slip at the location where the HGV has come to rest. Further inspections and repair planning are likely to be required once the vehicle recovery and spill response are complete.”
