Confusion over pothole repairs in Nether Edge after Amey fails to turn up as promised
“Resurfacing of Osborne Road was delayed this morning due to early rain. It will be completed today”
Confusion surrounds repairs to be carried out to a Sheffield road after a contractor failed to turn up as promised.
Residents on Osborne Road were warned it would be closed and parking suspended for 10 days from Wednesday, September 2.
Signs on the pavement do not state what the work will be but the surface is badly potholed.

On Friday, September 4, Amey, the council’s private sector works contractor, said: “Resurfacing of Osborne Road was delayed this morning due to early rain. It will be completed today.”
But on Monday, September 7, the surface was untouched, the road was open and cars were parking as normal.
The signs are branded Streets Ahead, the name of the partnership between Amey and the city council.
In July, Sheffield Labour councillors launched a “reporting blitz” to pressure the firm into tackling repairs after complaints from residents.
Amey repaired 8,929 potholes in Sheffield the first four months of 2026. As of May 8, it still had 4,088 to fix.
The Star asked for an update on repairs completed and outstanding on August 13 and was told a response would be made under Freedom of Information Reguations within 30 days, by September 11.
The council’s £2.2bn contract with Amey is set to last until 2037.
