Chesterfield Road South, leading from the Bowshaw Roundabout to the Meadowhead Roundabout, close to St James Retail Park, is shut on the northbound route heading into Sheffield.

The road leads off from the Unstone-Dronfield Bypass form Chesterfield and is one of the busiest in the city during rush hour.

An eyewitness told The Star how a red car had left the road.

Seven police cars arrived on blue lights to close the road at around 7.30am today (July 31).

Motorists are unable to travel up Chesterfield Road South, leading to congestion on the Bowshaw Roundabout.

Traffic is building on routes leading off of the roundabout such as Sheffield Road.

South Yorkshire Police has been contacted from a comment.
