Teacher given lifetime classroom ban after possessing cocaine and assaulting door staff at Sheffield nightclub

A drug-taking teacher who attacked door staff at a Sheffield nightclub has been banned from the country's classrooms for life.

Suzanne Lee, aged 36, ended up in court after a nightclub row in Sheffield during which she assaulted a man and woman working on the door.

After her arrest it was found she had been taking cocaine and was also carrying the Class A drug.

Lee, who taught at Darton College, Barnsley, was struck off in a decision taken on behalf of Education Secretary Justine Greening.

The ban followed a National College of Teaching and Leadership hearing in Coventry.

The NCTL panel was told that Lee appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court in October last year and pleaded guilty to possessing a controlled drug and assaulting a man and a woman in April last year.

She was ordered to pay fines, legal costs and compensation to the victims, totalling £720.

It wasn't revealed which Sheffield nightclub Lee was arrested at.

The findings said the behaviour of Lee, who was not present or represented at the hearing, ‘could affect the public confidence in the teaching profession’.

Imposing the ban, Jayne Millions, the NCTL’s head of teacher misconduct, said there was no evidence Lee’s actions ‘were not deliberate’ and that striking her off would be ‘both proportionate and appropriate’.

“I also note that there is no evidence of Ms Lee having shown any insight into her actions or remorse.”

The panel decided that Lee will not be entitled to apply to have the ban lifted, but she can appeal to the High Court.
