Police issue statement ahead of Sheffield United v Sheffield Wednesday derby - here's what to expect
South Yorkshire Police has issued a statement ahead of the Steel City Derby this weekend, marking the final Blades v Owls clash of the season.
The biggest and most highly-anticipated match in Sheffield’s football calendar is back at Bramall Lane on Sunday (February 22, 2026), with kick-off at midday.
The 2025/26 Championship season has been a tough one for the city’s clubs, with Sheffield Wednesday going into administration and being made the subject of an eye-watering points deduction, while Sheffield United have languished in the lower-middle end of the table for most of the season.

But no matter the standing and status of either side, the Steel City Derby always promises to be an exciting fixture.
Ahead of the inter-city clash, South Yorkshire Police has now issued a statement.
Chief Inspector Jonathan Greaves said: "We work closely with both Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, as well as the local authority, to ensure everyone can enjoy this month's Steel City Derby.
"Our number one priority is ensuring that our residents, and anyone visiting Sheffield, remains safe when out and about in the city.
"There will be a visible increased policing presence on the day.
“They are there to help and listen to anybody with concerns or questions, so please stop and say hello."
