Sheffield Arena was opened by the Queen in 1991, having been built to host the World Student Games, and it has hosted some huge shows over the years.

This retro photo gallery shows fans enjoying some of the biggest and best gigs and other events staged at the 13,600-capacity venue during the 1990s and noughties.

Ecstatic music lovers can be seen in the front row for Take That, Westlife and the Pop Idol tour, or queueing to see their favourite acts, ranging from U2 and Hear'Say to Tom Jones and Daniel O'Donnell.

It's not just music the arena hosts, of course. It's also home to the mighty Sheffield Steelers, so we've included some old photos of fans cheering on the team down the years. And the photos also capture the fun when Premier League Darts came to town.

What's the best gig you've ever seen at Sheffield Arena, and who would you most like to see there?
