Two takeaways lined up for grounds of once popular Sheffield pub

The pub has been closed for more than 15 years

Plans have been drawn up to set up two takeaways in the grounds of a once popular Sheffield pub.

Under the plans outlined by businessman Justin Brooks, part of the car park at the former Springwood Hotel, near Woodthorpe, would be used for cabins which would sell food.

They would be used to sell Caribbean street food and desserts.

Drawings which accompany a planning application submitted to Sheffield Council, describe the two new cabins as ‘Food Shack’ and Dessert Shack’.

The site is next to Hastilar Road South, close to the junction with Spinkhill Avenue

The plans are for the creation and operation of what Mr Brooks describes as a ‘grab and go’ food outlet within the car park of the closed pub.

He said in his application for planning permission: “The site is currently under-utilised and serves no purpose.”

Fayosee Chowdhury, of the architects Gilbert Elliot Rowe, said in a letter accompanying the application: "The proposed use involves the placement of two food servery units for the sale of food and drinks for off-site consumption.

“The food offering will comprise Caribbean fusion street food, alongside desserts such as milkshakes, waffles and brownies. Food will be cooked and prepared on site.”

He said arrangements would be put in place to prevent people littering the site.

The disused pub has been hit by a number of fires over the years, including an arson attack on New Year’s Day 2024.

There was also deliberately started fires there in the June and July of that same year.

After the pub closed it car park was used as the site of a hand car wash.
