Shops and restaurants plan rejected - because parking for bikes not good enough
There had previously been plans to demolish the old building
Plans to re-develop a former Jaguar dealership into shopping and restaurants have been rejected - because the parking for bikes is not good enough.
It is one of reasons suggested by Sheffield Council planning officials after a scheme was put forward to transform the former Hatfield’s Jaguar car showroom on Sharrow Vale Road.

The scheme would have refurbished the site, and transformed it into shops, offices and restaurants, with eight new units, with new cladding, shopfronts, doors, windows and landscaping. It would have had more than 50 parking spaces in total as well as bicycle parking.
There had previously been plans to demolish the old building, which dates back to the 1970s.

But the council put three reasons down for refusing planning permission for the scheme.
This includes concerns that not enough checks had been carried out into the affects of the scheme on wildlife and habitats; a lack of detail about planned solar panels which officials thought may cause glare; and concerns that a planned cycle storage area was not secure enough because it was out of sight, and that would ‘discourage the use of sustainable transport modes’.
There was also a letter of objection signed by 24 residents raising concerns over the plans.
They raised ecological concerns and also warned that the area is affected by anti-social behaviour.
But the council report said bringing the site back into use may address that problem.
A total of 20 jobs were lost when Hatfield Jaguar on Sharrow Vale Road closed three years ago The historic site is now boarded up, and has been covered in graffiti.
Hatfields was established in Sheffield by Ernest Hatfield in 1922. It moved to Sharrow Vale Road in 1982.
