In addition, South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner is due to be elected today.

Dr Alan Billings the current serving commissioner, is standing for Labour, David Chinchen for the Conservatives and Joe Otten for the Liberal Democrats.

Labour lost control of the council after being defeated in eight seats, including council leader Bob Johnson who lost his Hillsborough seat to the Green Party.

There is now no overall control of the authority and political parties are expected to be negotiating behind the scenes to try to form a coalition.
