It is a triumph for the It’s Our City campaigners as Sheffielders have chosen the committee system in the referendum.

Voters were given a choice between the existing cabinet model or a committee system and it was triggered by the campaign group, which favours the committee system, after it gathered a petition signed by more than five per cent of city voters.

In addition, South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner is due to be elected today.

Dr Alan Billings the current serving commissioner, is standing for Labour, David Chinchen for the Conservatives and Joe Otten for the Liberal Democrats.

We will be bringing you live coverage of both results, plus more reaction to the city’s council elections last Friday.

Labour lost control of the council after being defeated in eight seats, including council leader Bob Johnson who lost his Hillsborough seat to the Green Party.

There is now no overall control of the authority and political parties are expected to be negotiating behind the scenes to try to form a coalition.
