Police seal off Sheffield house after fatal blaze

The property in Grindlow Close, Heeley, went up in flames at around 8am this morning and a woman, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is reported that a neighbour batted in vain to try to rescue the woman but was beaten back by flames and smoke.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “A woman has sadly died following a house fire in Sheffield.

“Firefighters were called at around 8am this morning.

“Upon arrival they found a two-storey house well alight. Breathing apparatus wearers entered the property but, despite their best efforts, the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is currently under investigation and our thoughts are very much with the woman’s family and friends.”
