The company’s email advert, which was sent to prospective customers in June, was banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), after they upheld complaints from three people who said the ad was likely to cause serious or widespread offence.

Sam Piri, boss of ITAE Productions, said: “As a business we operate on the margins of controversy, the human body is a fascinating machine but we appreciate the dissection of it is not to everybody’s taste.”

Mr Piri shared he took issue with the fact all the people who received the advert had opted into receiving it, through following them on social media or through email sign ups.

He said: “The campaign went out to over 45,000 people by email and another 30,000 on social media and the blog post had really good traction in terms of opening rates. Of all of those exposed, 3 people complained, a tiny proportion of people offended.

"As scientific organisation we deal in fact, everything in the campaign was factual, we can’t change that and we certainly shouldn’t be censoring it because a tiny fringe of society don’t like the past.”

The advert in question was for a 10 per cent Father’s Day discount, which was accompanied by a blog post about Fred West, who was involved in the murder of 12 young women in Gloucester, including that of his daughter, Heather West.

The advert was titled She's Under The Patio, and read: “This week we take a look at the Father's famous for all the wrong reasons… Fred West became known in the 1990s when it was revealed him and his wife, Rosemary, were involved in 12 murders of young women in Gloucester.

"One of their victims was their own daughter… of which when she was missing they would often joke of her being 'buried under the patio'. Take 10 per cent off this Fathers Day."

The ASA upheld the complaints and said: “We considered that conflating Fred West with the celebration of Father's Day was intended to create shock value and contributed to the ad's offensive nature.

"We considered that using the murder of a young woman, in order to shock readers into clicking on the ad, was gratuitous and likely to cause serious offence."

When is Post-Mortem live coming to Sheffield?

The Post-Mortem live show in Sheffield will arrive later this year, with seven shows running from December 4, to December 9, 2022.

The event is based on the true story of the death of Anton Orlvov, who died in March of this year. Early police and MI6 intelligence suggested Mr Orlov could be a victim of a targeted attack using a biological, chemical or radioactive weapon.

Post-Mortem live will invite guests to uncover the key factor leading to his death and is fully immersive, allowing participants to take part in a number of dissections.
