A long-term investigation by West Yorkshire Police uncovered an industrial scale drugs operation based in Halifax which saw an organised crime gang working with connections in Middlesborough and Blackpool.

Mohammed Hussain (33), of Lemington Avenue, Halifax, was operating two distribution hubs, one from a flat in the Holmefield area of the town and the other on Saville Park Road.

Hussain and his right-hand man Zahid Shakoor were found to be present at both addresses and digital evidence proved their role in the wider gang.

During the investigation Hussain was arrested in November 2024 following an exchange that led to the recovery of 4kg of cocaine, 20kg of cannabis, and £26,970 in cash.

Det Insp Kevin Daly of the West Yorkshire Police Force Precision team said: “This was a huge investigation, and we know the devastating impact the supply and use of class A drugs can have.

“Large scale operations of this nature can drive associated criminality such as violence and exploitation across our neighbourhoods.

“Organised Crime Groups rely on firearms, violence and intimidation to maintain control over local drug markets, causing significant harm to our communities.

“Tackling this is a priority, but we cannot do it alone. We rely on the support of communities to provide information.

“Every piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, can help us build a clearer picture and take action.”
