Sheffield buses to avoid Division Street on Fridays and Saturdays over 'safety concerns'

Two major bus companies say they will no longer stop on Division Street in Sheffield on clubbing nights over ‘safety concerns’.

First South Yorkshire announced this morning (October 24) that its routes will be diverted away from the busy city centre street on Friday and Saturday evenings.

In the statement on Twitter, the bus company said Stagecoach will also be avoiding the road.

Division Street is one of Sheffield’s busiest scenes for nightlife, pubs and bars.

Both bus companies have been contacted for a comment on whether the safety concerns are for pedestrians or the bus drivers and their passengers.

The affected routes include the 51, 52a, 95, 95a and 120.

The statement online reads: “Due to health and safety concerns regarding the use of Division Street during Fri & Sat evenings, inbound services operated by us & our colleagues at Stagecoach, will be diverted.

“Apologies for issues this may cause on your journey.”

First South Yorkshire and Stagecoach have been contacted for comment.
