M1 near Meadowhall closed due to major crash

The northbound carriageway of the M1 near Meadowhall has been closed due to a serious crash on Saturday evening.

According to Highway England, traffic officers have now closed Junction 34 for Meadowhall and Junction 35 for Thorpe Hesley.

Emergency services were rushed to the scene following the incident.

Vehicles have been allowed to go past the collision via lane four.

According to an eyewitness, Ricky Rhodes, the incident occurred at around 6.30pm.

He said: “It's a really bad one. As I got further down, quite a few fire engines were racing to the scene.”

Highway England, in a tweet posted at 8pm, said recovery for the vehicles is well underway and they are clearing the carriageway of debris.
