John Frederick Senior, aged 44, of Oakbrook Road, which runs between Endcliffe and Nether Green, Sheffield, was found dead by his wife on March 22, 2026.

Details surounding the tragedy were aired at an inquest into his death, where it was revealed that he had taken the drug MDMA.

Coroner Ms Fiona Morrison said: “On 21 March (Mr Senior) went out for his friend’s birthday. At 9.37pm, he text (his wife) regarding a gig they were going to, and at 1.01am on the 22 March, she text him to say she was going to bed.

“She recalls hearing the door open and when she awoke at 9am, she found her husband on the kitchen floor, face down, and with sick on him.”

His wife “felt he was cold” and was concerned he might have been with people who were taking drugs.

Shortly after she discovered his body, she contacted emergency services and paramedics attended the scene however he had already died.

During the inquest, the coroner read a statement from Dr Kitsanta, who conducted the autopsy report which showed “there was evidence of MDMA” in the hours prior to his death.

On top of the presence of drugs, Mr Senior suffered from a chest infection, this then led to what’s known as ‘respiratory reserve,’ which is where the maximum amount of additional air is taken into the lungs after a normal breath.

Following the use of MDMA, a blood clot formed in one of his veins, which travelled to his lungs and essentially blocked a blood vessel, resulting in his death.

Ms Morrison accepted this as the medical cause of death, and gave her conclusion to the inquest as a ‘drug-related’ death.

The family were not in attendance during the inquest, but the coroner regarded them and said: “I express my sincere condolences to the family.”
