Enterprise event a winner for Doncaster College

Enterprising students at Doncaster College pitched business ideas to both judges and audience in the finals of a competition designed to test their skills and teamwork.

Teams of students competed over weeks with innovative products and services, then finalists were grilled to be in with a chance of winning cash prizes. Those present witnessed some outstanding presentations using interactive technology and prototypes of products.

Meryl White, chair of judges panel, said: “This was a fantastic event and I was really proud of all the students who took part. I was very impressed with their level of confidence and professionalism. It was fantastic to hear about their business journey and find out about what they learned and problems they encountered.

“We were very impressed with the high level of creativity and originality that went into the thought process of the businesses. The range of innovative products shows we have a budding generation of entrepreneurs in Doncaster, which we need to nurture in order to ensure a brighter future across the region.”

Judges Catherine Parkinson (Deputy Principal Strategy and Resources at Doncaster College), Stacey Austin (Managing Director Boxes and Packaging), Catherine Jones (Business Growth Manager at Smith Craven) and Meryl White (Doncaster College Governor and Vice Chair of the Board/Chair South Yorkshire Young Enterprise Board) said standards had been extremely high and congratulated all who took part.

Catherine Jones, Business Growth Manager at Smith Craven Chartered Accountants said: “It was a privilege to be part of this event. I was very encouraged by the high calibre of business ideas, product design and students presentations. The ‘buzz’ around the college was electric. The event was professionally organised and staff, students and judges alike were able to collectively celebrate the achievements of so many talented individuals.”

Cash awards were donated by Adrian Welch Glass and Glazing, MeetUpCall, Smith Craven and Dixon Timber.
