The service said in a statement at 3.22pm today (July 25): “We're getting lots of 999 calls about a wildfire on Dyke Vale Road in Sheffield (S12).

“We know about the incident and have fire engines on the scene.”

It is the latest in a spate of fire to affect dry ground in the city.

Yesterday, seven fire engines were sent to a woodland fire in Grenoside, while crews were sent to Wincobank on Wednesday after a fire broke out in a green space next to Wensley Street.

They have warned people not to use have barbecues on grassland because of the risk of fire.
