Tributes paid to much loved murder victim attacked on Sheffield estate

Tributes have been paid to a much loved man murdered on a Sheffield estate.

The 42-year-old, whose name has not been formally released but who has been named locally as Anthony, was killed in an attack on the Manor estate just before midnight on Thursday into Friday.

He was found critically injured on Windy House Lane and despite the efforts of paramedics to save him he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 49-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder.

The police probe into the killing is ongoing today, with Detective Chief Inspector Simon Palmer stating: “We are doing all we can to locate those responsible.”

He described the murder as ‘shocking’ and said a ‘dedicated team’ is ‘working tirelessly on the investigation’.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the wake of the fatal attack.

Friends of the murder victim have posted tributes on Facebook, with one describing Anthony as a ‘loved’ son, brother, dad, grandad and grandson.

Scott Crookes posted: “I’m so sorry to hear this news. I’ve known Anthony my whole life, fly high bro! Love and condolences to his family and friends.”

Marie Heath added: “Thinking of his poor family at this time. He was one of the good ones, he didn't deserve this. R.I.P.”

Carla Jones described him as a ‘good friend’.
