Police probe into murder on Sheffield estate continues after man is fatally attacked in street

Detectives are continuing to investigate the murder of a man fatally attacked on a Sheffield estate.

The 42-year-old victim, who has not yet been named, was found critically injured on Windy House Lane, Manor, just before midnight on Thursday into Friday.

Paramedics battled to revive him but he could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene, which remained cordoned off last night and under police guard.

A 49-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder was quizzed throughout yesterday over the killing.

South Yorkshire Police said the victim had been attacked.

His relatives are being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Palmer, leading the police probe into the killing, said: “I understand how shocking this incident will have been to you. Please know that our enquiries continue at pace and we have a dedicated team working tirelessly on the investigation, carrying out CCTV analysis and conducting door-to-door enquiries.”

Extra police patrols have been ordered in the wake of the murder.
