South Yorkshire Police said the 42-year-old man killed on Windy House Lane, Manor, died after attack.

The murder victim was found ‘critically injured’ and despite paramedics battling to revive him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police cordon was put in place around the crime scene yesterday, with a protective tent covering the area where the man was killed in a bid to preserve potentially vital forensic evidence.

Officers arrested a 49-year-old man on suspicion of murder yesterday, with the suspect still in custody last night.

An update on the progress of the murder probe is expected this morning.

Police officers were deployed to the Manor estate at 11.55pm on Thursday following reports of an attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Palmer, leading the police investigation, said: “I’d like to offer my reassurance to the local community that we are doing all we can to locate those responsible.
