Four men, aged 28, 29, 31 and 41, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and last night the 28-year-old and 31-year-old remained in police custody.

The other two have been bailed pending further enquiries.

A post mortem examination carried out earlier this week recorded the cause of death as a head injury.

Posting tributes to him on Facebook, Mick Clarke said: “He was a good mate to me at school, lovely family too.”

Sam Moore added: “Was such a lovely fella. May your beautiful soul rest in peace. You will be sadly missed.”

Lisa Mellor said: “So sorry to hear this. I went to school with Stafford and remember him fondly. My condolences to Stafford’s family.”

Joanna Clark and Amy Till both described the murder as ‘so sad’.

Detectives piecing together Stafford’s last known movements before he was found injured wand to hear from anyone who saw him in the days before he was found.

Detective Inspector Rob Platts said: “No matter how small or insignificant you feel your piece of information may be, it could help us build a better understanding of how Mr Garner came to be fatally injured.
