To lighten the mood across the city as residents comply with government lockdown rules to prevent the spread of coronavirus, officers took a football on their patrols and were filmed showcasing their skills in the deserted streets of Parson Cross, Fox Hill and Southey Green.

Different officers were filmed with the ball in different locations across the estate, with the footage showing how deserted the streets are.

Under lockdown rules, people can only leave their homes for shopping, exercise once a day, medical appointments or supplies and for essential travel to work.

The Parson Cross neighbourhood policing team said some fines were issued to those caught breaching the rules, but the majority of residents are adhering to guidelines.

The team said: “ We have this evening continued patrols to ensure that people are adhering to the current national guidelines in order to protect the NHS and save lives.

“Unfortunately we have once again had to issue fines to several people who are failing to follow advice.

“Whilst doing this we are always impressed by the amount of you that are complying with the guidelines and making the streets so quiet - in doing so helping to save the lives of so many. You, the majority of the public, are heroes.

“We wanted to say thank you and highlight what we found this evening within the Parson Cross, Fox Hill and Southey Green area in our own unique way. The ball travels from one quiet street to the next - lets see how many of the locations you can identify.

“Note - no police officers or vehicles were injured in the making of this video.”
