5. Joshua Green: Man killed in attack on dancefloor of Sheffield club
Joshua Green, aged 27, was killed in an attack on the dance floor of a city party venue on January 1, 2012. The dad was on a night out at a R 'n' B party at the Stars and Mayfair venue on Queens Road when he was knifed during a disturbance. Friends, relatives, fellow revellers and staff battled to revive him but he could not be saved. Joshua, from Manor Park, Sheffield, was stabbed once in his neck and twice in his back. When officers arrived at the scene, further fights broke out and officers had to use CS gas to restrain some of those involved. During an inquest into Joshua's death, it was revealed that in the chaos afterwards as party-goers fled, they trampled through the crime scene - making it difficult for forensic evidence to be recovered. Over 400 people were captured on CCTV cameras entering Stars and Mayfair but nobody has yet been charged over the killing. Photo: SYP

6. James Kamara: Dad-of-two killed in a drive-by shooting
James Kamara, a dad-of-two, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Broomhall in July 2009. The 22-year-old was shot seven times in his chest while he was sat in a car in Brunswick Street saying his goodbyes to friends before he left Sheffield to start a new life in another city. South Yorkshire Police believe James was killed as part of a bitter feud between rival gangs operating in Sheffield at that time – the S3 gang from Burngreave and Pitsmoor and the WS10 ‘Squaremen’ from Broomhall. James died in a hail of bullets 90 minutes after the rival gangs clashed in Eldon Street, Devonshire Green. Detectives who investigated the case believe a leading member of the Squaremen had been the intended target of the attack and that James was in the wrong place at the wrong time. A masked man opened fire from a passing Vauxhall Vectra, hitting James seven times and injuring three others. Four men were charged over the death, with three arrested in Liverpool and one in Spain, but they walked free after being found not guilty following a trial. Photo: SYP

She had just arrived home with fish and chips from her local takeaway when she was attacked. When her body was found the following day, her food was uneaten and her purse was missing.
